Epoxy floors are low-maintenance — but there are a few things you should and should not do to keep yours looking new. The daily routine is simple: sweep or vacuum to remove grit and dust. Grit is the enemy — it acts like sandpaper under shoes and tires, dulling the gloss over time.
The Do's and Don'ts
Mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, and dry with a soft mop or microfiber to prevent water spots. Use felt pads under heavy tool chests and workbenches. Park after the full cure — 72 hours is the safe rule — and use a rubber mat under hot tires in summer if your top coat is not UV-stable. Avoid abrasive scrub pads, bleach, and harsh degreasers, which etch the top coat. For oil spills, wipe immediately with a paper towel, then a mild cleaner; epoxy resists stains, but the mess is easier to clean while fresh.
Once or twice a year, a thorough mop with a dedicated epoxy cleaner restores the shine. With this routine, a quality system will look like new for 10–20 years — and a refresh recoat brings it back to showroom condition when the time comes.
